Annual BMEEC Conference
The Alaska Bilingual Multicultural Education/Equity Conference (BMEEC) is an annual event hosted by the Alaska Association for Bilingual Education, Alaska Native Education Association and other partners. The BMEEC provides an opportunity for educators and students to share perspectives on educational objectives, projects, programs and more. This conference is designed for: Teachers/Paraprofessionals Bilingual Coordinators Heritage Language/ESL staff Counselors Administrators Students/ Future Teachers Parents/ Community members Curriculum Coordinators Equity Coordinators Tribal Education Administrators Education Specialists.
The aim of BMEEC is to increase public and professional awareness of successful program practices in bilingual/multicultural education and share strategies to prepare all students to meet district and state performance standards. To provide an opportunity for selected high school students and future teachers to share and explore issues in heritage language education and develop leadership skills. To engage education in discussions about technology access and use to strengthen teaching and learning opportunities. To explore community-based strategies which enable students to become proficient in their heritage language and culture. To address educational equity issues of gender, race and national origin in Alaskan schools. To address successful practices in reading and content area instruction.
