2010 Recap:
7th Annual FEA Student Gathering

A whopping 96 FEA High School Students, were welcomed April 14-16th to the 7th Annual Statewide Student Gathering in Anchorage, Alaska. The 2010 Student Gathering celebrated a wonderful, productive year in over 60 FEA Clubs across 27 Alaska School Districts. This event focused high school students making the transition to higher education with fun activities that increased their interest in the education profession.

The 2010 Student Gathering presented an opportunity for high school students to learn more about the education profession by touring the University of Alaska Anchorage campus, meeting other FEA club members from around the state, and networking with educators and leaders! During the event, they learned to plan for post-secondary education and about the various options available after high school. They heard from Keynote Speaker Willie Hensley, college students actively enrolled at UAA, educators who teach or have taught in rural Alaska, and from teachers currently seeking employment in Alaska schools. This dynamic three-day event encouraged and supported student's interests in the education profession and provided them with the tools and resources to pursue successful careers in teaching.

Special thanks to the following programs and organizations that helped make this event possible: UAA School of Education, Native Student Services, Alaska Native & Rural Outreach Program, Alaska Native Science & Engineering Program; UAF School of Education, Rural Student Services; Alaska Teacher Placement; UAS PITAAS Program; and Interior-Aleutians Campus. Thank you to all of these individuals who volunteered their time and energy to make the 2010 Student Gathering possible, and to the many advisors and coordinators for all of their hard work and dedication.
